Councilmember Palmer to Continue Weekly Food Pantry Through May 16

Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer

NEW ORLEANS - District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank, World Central Kitchen, Project Isaiah and Culture Aid NOLA to continue offering meals and non-perishable food items for residents affected by COVID-19. The weekly food pantries have provided more than 50,000 meals and 10,000 food boxes to families across the city.

Due to the growing need in Algiers, an additional food pantry will be available on Friday, May 1 and 15 at All Saints Catholic Church on Teche Street. The weekly drive-up and walk-up food pantries will be operating as long as the stay-at-home order in Orleans Parish remains in effect.

"This is a difficult time for many of our families who are struggling with the current economic and health crisis, and the demand is high for food assistance. We hope providing food and meals several times a week will alleviate some of their stress during this time. The meal distribution wouldn't be possible without our partners, Second Harvest Food Bank, World Central Kitchen, Project Isaiah and countless volunteers who have been supporting our food relief efforts for six weeks now. I appreciate them and their work, and I'm extremely grateful for all that they are doing for our city," said Councilmember Palmer.

If you would like to volunteer at one of the food pantries, email tiffaney.bradley@nola.gov or call (504) 658-1030 Monday - Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM. You can make a donation to help sustain the food distribution relief efforts through Second Harvest Food Bank here
